Northern Californians are concerned about some major forthcoming problems tied to new stadium construction. Both the Oakland A’s and the San Francisco 49ers are looking to build new stadiums. Construction companies are licking their chops vying to take a piece of the taxpayers’ pie while local grassroots groups have formed to fight these behemoths from landing in their zip code. Furthermore, the Santa Clara City Council narrowly supported the deceptive phrase ‘no new taxes for residents’ to be included in the measure to approve funding for a new stadium for the 49ers in a June 8th, 2010 vote.
The Sports Fans Coalition stands in solidarity with the sports fans in this city as they effort to avoid the expensive undertaking of building new stadiums with all the negative financial consequences awaiting them in the not-so-distant future. Read more here.
