Los Angeles

The most spread out big city in the country is really just a huge conglomeration of little towns and neighborhoods with a rich sports history. LA is filled with displaced fans who are less likely to experience blackouts by virtue of that fact, but are certainly susceptible to the evils of the BCS’ tyranny and rise to the very top of the list when you talk about public funding for stadiums. The word ‘stadium’ alone will trigger horrific memories amongst those long enough in the tooth to have experienced the devastation of Chavez Ravine in order to construct Dodgers Stadium. It’s a story of uncompromising greed and is not a far cry from today’s struggles in SoCal.

He may be the greatest Hollywood action movie actor from Austria ever, but California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s open invite to the struggling NFL teams across the country is a major concern for a multitude of reasons which SFC board member Dave Zirin lays out in the article he wrote for the LA Times.

The Bowl Championship Series has kept a two-loss USC out of contention for a National Championship since Vince Young crossed the plane of the endzone in 2005 ending Pete Carroll and Reggie Bush’s chance of winning any more NCAA titles now that they’ve moved on to the Pros. Wouldn’t it have been nice to give Mark Sanchez a shot to prove himself in a college playoff tournament? The fact is that its more than nice. It’s our right as fans to see a tax-exempt organization such as the NCAA to administer their Division I-A post-season like they do every other sport, allowing athletes to determine the champion on the field of play.

Los Angeles needs sports fans to take the power back. Join the Coalition, Share your stories, and start the LA chapter of the SFC. Let’s begin today.

About SFC

SFC is the American sports fan’s advocate in the D.C. public policy arena fighting for sports fans in every city across the country.

Sports Businesses, Leagues, and Universities are grasping for our cash left and right. Let's join together to keep their hands off our wallets unless and until we have a say in how that money is spent. Futhermore, we sports fans believe we should be able to watch our games, no matter how we get our media.
