Jacksonville is the home of the blackout, outperforming every other NFL host city in 2009. The problem is so dire that the team holds a celebration when it is able to actually ‘sell out’ its stadium when the Super Bowl-bound Indianapolis Colts come to town. Are you serious? A party when you barely make the cut?
This can go on no longer. The SFC knows the city of Jacksonville is experiencing extremely difficult economic conditions, but the NFL needs to respond by doing more than just relaxing the standards of what constitutes a blackout. The NFL needs to shed this policy like a bad habit today.
Jacksonville fans who cannot afford to go to the games even when the team is 7-5 and in playoff contention want to see the games on TV. They need to watch their Jaguars on TV. They should not be penalized for losing their jobs. The League needs to revise its policy, and the only way this will become a reality is if sports fans in Florida unite under this common cause and let their representatives and the NFL know that they won’t stand for it. We won’t stand for it in 2010 or ever again. Join the Coalition, Share your stories, and start the Jacksonville chapter of the SFC today.
